My hair looked funnier than your hair…Thanks mom

Filed under: my mom's funnier than your mom, the way it was, works for me wednesday — Tags: , , — franticallysimple @ 10:05 am

Even my computer hated my hair in this post, because the original got deleted.
Here’s me trying to recreate it.

In keeping with my My Mom’s Funnier than your Mom series this week, I thought I’d share this truth:
Having my mom be my hair stylist when I was growing up didn’t work for me.
It. just. didn’t.

Um…those bangs are sort of really crooked.
mom was my stylist
And now so are the teeth. Somebody get this girl a stylist and an orthodontist, stat!
mom was my stylist

That’s right cover those monstrous teeth. (Braces are coming, just hang on, girl.)
Oh, and the black clothes? I was mourning my lack of hair cuteness.
mom was my stylist

And my personal favorite:
mom was my stylist
I can’t decide what’s worse. The home perm? The mullet? Blue eyeliner? Those earrings? Or that totally rad sweatshirt?

While you’re here go check out my My Kids Mom Rocks giveaway. I promise that the prize is better than a free hairstyle by my mom.
And when you’re done with that drop by WFMW to see what doesn’t work for other bloggers out there and 5 Minutes for Mom to see some cool pictures.

  1. We must be about the same age. I had that same unfortunate cut. Althought I do believe a “professional” did my hair. So what does that say! HA!

  2. WOW! A video sweatshirt… definitely a child of the 80s. At least there is a core of cuteness in you that is the common thread through all the pictures :-)

  4. Our mom’s must have taken hair cutting lessons at the same place because I have photos that look very similar.

  6. You are a brave woman. ;-) Exactly the reason why I never let my mom do my hair!

  10. I remember curling half of my bangs up and half down, so they sort of looked like 2 carrots, stacked. Then I’d massacre them with hairspray, feather them, shape them into an oval with my 2 hands cupped around them, then massacre them again with hairspray. I think everyone looked a little awkward in the 80’s. I also wore those black tapered guess jeans with the ankle zipper and bow. I am SO glad those days are long gone!

  11. Love the pic, I think I have one like it somewhere of me (clothes, style etc): My mom also created many a hair nightmare-for example, school pictures: I was 6 or 7 and my mom decided that instead of giving me a bath in the morning she would just brush my hair with baby powder. I looked like a freak…all of my hair was white and cake-y. She ended up washing it anyways. lol

  12. I love all of the pictures! They were too funny—I have had some great haircuts as well when I was younger. . .

  13. Ouch! That is one messed up haircut. This is why I don’t attempt to do my kids’ hair even if it would save them a few bucks. I had the “Dorothy Hammel” cut when I was little.

  14. My dear sister, have you forgotten that our mother practiced on me first? Have you ever wondered why you have not seen a lot of pictures of me in my youth? I had a beehive for picture day when I was in the 3rd grade. But she couldn’t leave it alone and added a velvet green bow and stuck it in the front,it drooped down over my right eye. next time you visit remind me to show you. Love you lots!

  15. Hi! this is your mom speaking. I really was a hair dresser at one time and a pretty good one. But time must have warped me. They really were terrible hair cuts. And I don’t even drink…I must have used the lawn mower. There was one time in the beauty shop when I was cutting a lady’s hair.
Her hair was very thick so I went about to thin it with the thinning shears. I picked up the wrong scissors, and cut off a great big swath above her ear. Thank goodness she didn’t sue me. I talked her into a short hair cut. Being a bit apprehensive, she finally agreed it would look better than that bald spot. After being a hair dresser for 10 years, I put the scissors away. Later on I thought I could cut the children’s hair. But I lost the touch. Sorry I put all of you kids through that. I have had the same reaction from the boys in the family. No one will let me cut their hair. I wonder why? One other time I decided to bleach my sisters hair to a blond
It turned out orange. I kept telling her it was beautiful but she didn’t believe me. We had to die it back to brown. She reminds me of that every once in a while. Well enough of me. Have a happy mothers day. And don’t cut your daughters hair. I now cut my poodles hair and he doesn’t like it either. But I am the Boss. I tell her that she looks cute. My son son says she looks like a rat. But she is very loving, and forgiving.
